Why are you here?
Most therapists can help people with a wide variety of issues. While the same is true for me, I specialize in supporting people who struggle with their identities and relationships. The sad truth is that western culture and generational parenting standards of the last few decades have left people with unresolved trauma in their bodies and minds. In addition, many nuerodivergent people and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have to manage overtly traumatic experiences, toxic shame, bullying, and marginalization not just from the public but in their closest relationships. In my opinion, everyone deserves safe spaces to be who they are and express themselves fully.
Here are some questions for you to consider.
~ Does something just feel off?
~ Have you tried therapy before, learned all the skills, but something still just isn't sitting right?
~ Have you been given a mental health diagnosis but not support you really need?
~ Are you a member of a marginalized community such as BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, nuerodivergent, sex worker, etc.?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, I want to work with you. I truly feel honoured to come alongside every single one of my clients. I have so much gratitude for what is shared with me, and doing this work is a privilege that I don't take lightly.
My approach is grounded in creating the best relationship I can with you. Once you feel safe, I use a variety of techniques to help you access your body's own wisdom. Most of us know how to heal, but our brains get in the way. Your subconscious mind is a great source of healing. I help people access their subconscious minds and body's wisdom through somatic exercises, parts work, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, meditations, and psychedelic integration work. I also believe in the power of art and play. I've had such powerful experiences by encouraging my inner child to get messy and silly!
The therapeutic relationship...
is the most important factor for clients reaching their goals in therapy. I invite you to learn more about me below. If you think we would be a good fit, reach out and schedule a free 15-minute video consultation (there's an easy form at the bottom this page)
A little about me
Hi! I'm River and I'm so happy you're here.
I'm a queer, nuerodivergent, and non-binary psychotherapist. I'm also a speaker, facilitator, teacher, parent, and joyful human! I'm a parent to three beautiful, silly, and really hilarious kids (I have no idea where they get it from).
I'm an artist with experience in many different forms of visual arts, my favourite being nature photography. I have a strong relationship to nature, one that I believe is central to my mental health and the fulfillment of my spirit.
I am proud to own my nuerodivergent identity. To many, this is seen as a dis-ability. But I believe nuerodivergents have dif-ferent abilities than their nuerotypical peers. And these abilities contribute to the beautiful mosaic of life on earth.
I strive to create a life full of love and joy for myself and people around me. Getting clear on my values was an important step for me to unlock my own potential and live the life that I really wanted. I let go of the life I was born into and thought I should live, and got clear on the life I really wanted. And I am living it!
I believe in a global holistic mental health movement that puts the tools of health and wellness in the hands of each individual. I believe in dismantling the patriarchal capitalist institutions that marginalize so many and keep people stuck in the cycle of systemic trauma.
